Pintsize footer.php

footer.php

Usually included in a wordpress template by a <?php get_footer(); ?> command. This code generates the code to display the page footer.

   <!-- footer div for styling -->
   <div id="footer">
      <!-- Print date in year format and use bloginfo function to show site name -->
      <p>&copy;<?php echo date("Y"); echo " "; bloginfo('name'); ?></p>
   </div>
</div>
<!-- wp-footer is one of those required elements in a WordPress theme -->
<?php wp_footer(); ?>
<!-- Don't forget analytics -->
<!-- Analytics code can be put here if wanted -->
</body>
</html>

<?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?>

The bloginfo php function will retrieve blog information from the WordPress database, the name is the Site Title from General under Settings. Retireving this from the WordPress database allows you to show a user specified value for the name, as opposed to having it hardcoded in the template file. Other options can be used to link to other information from the wordPress database.

<?php wp_footer(); ?>

Always have wp_footer() just before the closing </body> tag of your theme, or you will break many plugins, which generally use this hook to reference JavaScript files.
